It’s been a year since we opened our doors. A year since we started planning weekly menus. A year of meeting new customers and friends, of cooking for 15 hours straight. A year that’s gone by so quickly that I wonder sometimes if there was ever breath to catch.
After 15 years in the catering business, we opened the doors to Linda’s Fine Food to Go on April 24, 2006. I had long dreamed of fixing food for people to pick up on their way home from work, on their way to visit friends, on days when cooking seemed out of the question. I had wanted to feed people who weren’t interested in catering a party, as well as those who were. A year ago, we turned on the lights and opened the door. Thank you to all of you who stop by and pick up food. Thank you to those who pull up a chair and eat with us. We didn’t start out to be a restaurant, but we had some extra rooms, and the tables looked good in them. We thought we might host some private parties. Pretty soon, people asked if they could sit down to eat their food. Why not, we said. Then there were comments about table service. |
What table service, we asked. And there were questions about serving pieces. You have such a pretty place, we heard. Why serve off plastic? Are we serving, we asked.
So we brought plates and bowls and mismatched antique silverplate to the tables, and we’ve had such a good time finding it all. Now, it seems we’re dining in as well as taking out. We’ve learned so much, and we’re still learning more. We’ve learned that people care where their fish comes from, that Thai shrimp sells in Wimberley, that the enchiladas I dreamed one night were a good dream. We’ve learned that the garden out back grows herbs and flowers and solace, that the laughter around the tables makes us all smile. We’ve learned how to work together. How to make mistakes. How to fix them. We plan to continue learning. Thank you for your support. Thank you for your friendship. It’s been a year. |
